The training on water loss reduction in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, was attended by 36 participants with representatives from different water utilities across Bolivia. The training introduced participants to the different types of water losses, their causes and impacts and focused on the following aspects:

  • Calculation of water balances according to the International Water Association (IWA) standard and its interpretation.
  • Calculation and interpretation of performance indicators, especially the infrastructure leakage index (ILI).
  • Introduction to existing information systems for water loss reduction and hydraulic network models.
  • Calculation of economic benefits derived from pressure management.
  • Introduction to concepts and equipment for active leakage control.
